PURPOSE:To speed up restoration processing by providing the title system with an inference tree forming/restoring means for holding a rule execution sequence by an inference tree relating respective rules by the data reference/updating elation of working memory and restoring the sequence to a state formed immediately before the application of the rule. CONSTITUTION:The rule base inference restoration system is provided with the working memory part 4 for holding/controlling data consisting of input data at the time of resolving a problem, intermediate date or output data for problem resolution, a rule base part 5 for holding/controlling rules indicating fragmentary procedure for problem resolution, an inference execution part 3 for searching rules to be applied to the data controlled by the memory part 4 from the base part 5 and applying the rules to the data in the memory part 4 in accordance with a prescribed application strategy, and an inference tree forming/restoring part 6 for holding the execution sequence of the rules in the execution part 3 by the inference tree relating the rules by the data reference/updating relation of the memory part 4 to restore the sequence to the state of the memory part 4 formed immediately before the application of a specified rule.
