PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure the amount of attached oil in line by projecting ultraviolet rays on the surface of an aluminum foil to be measured, measuring the potential of electrons in the surface, and reading the attached amount corresponding to the measured potential based on the data which have been obtained beforehand. CONSTITUTION:An ultraviolet ray lamp 14 and a potential measuring sensor 15 are contained in a casing 13 which is provided at the upper side of a sample 12 of an aluminum foil. When the ultraviolet rays are projected on the surface of the sample 12 from the lamp 14, the electrons in the surface of the sample are excited and repelled to the outside. The potential of the repelled electrons is detected with the sensor 15 and amplified. The result is displayed on a display device as a voltage. When the attached amount of oil is much, the ultraviolet rays reaching the surface of the sample 12 become weak, and the excited electrons become few. Thus, the potential detected with the sensor 15 becomes low. Conversely, when the attached amount of the oils is less, the potential detected with the sensor 15 becomes high. When the measured amount of the potential is made to correspond to the amount of the potential obtained beforehand, the attached amount of the oil can be measured in line.
