The invention relates to an apparatus 1 for measuring the variation in curvature of a beam 3 as a function of a variation in the bending moment M, comprising a rigid reference plate 2 resting on the beam 3 via a tripod 4a, 4b, 4c, a tilting plate 5 articulated to one end of the reference plate 2 using a horizontal pivoting pin 7, and a device 11 for measuring the differential rotation of the tilting plate 5 with respect to the reference plate 2 under the action of a variation in the bending moment M. The auscultation method consists in connecting the measurement apparatus 1 to a cable (trailer) 20, in holding the cable (trailer) stationary during a measurement, and in moving a load F on the cable (trailer) over a distance d, in order to create a variation in the bending moment.
