The sulphur-containing additive is characterised according to the invention in that it includes the following partial structure: IMAGE in which R denotes a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon radical with 1 to 15 carbon atoms, R' denotes a hydrogen or halogen atom, an -N=, -O-, -S- or -P= group, or else R and R' form with the nitrogen atom a 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring and M+ denotes a metal cation or a valency of a metal cation. This additive reduces the abrasive effect of contaminant particles based in particular on silica compounds and makes it possible to extend the period of use of the lubricants and greases.
