Molecular probe characterised in that it exhibits a hybridisation profile which gives rise to the presence of at least one band which is specific for the male genome of mammals, especially of the genus Bos. Processes for preparing a DNA molecular probe specific for the male genome of mammals, especially of the genus Bos, by recombining segments of genomic DNA or by synthesis. Application of the said DNA molecular probe specific for the male genome of the said mammals to the determination of the sex of embryos or foetuses thereof.
