The monitoring device uses a microphone (34) contained withinm a cone (31) mounted on the outside of the tractor with its open mouth facing towards the tractor coupling, for detecting noise emitted by the latter. The acoustic signals provided by the microphone (34) are processed to allow a warning signal to be provided via a loudspeaker (35) contained within the closed tractor cab. Pref. the acoustic signals from the microphone (34) are fed to the loudspeaker (35) via a variable amplifier (33) with the amplification controls (36) adjusted by the tractor driver. USE - For providing audible warning of faulty coupling when driver is seated in closed cab.
