Looper control unit to regulate the looper angle and tension between roll stands in a continuous rolling mill has a looper speed control unit (1) acting on the armature current (1) and another control to regulate the rotational speed of the main motor (5) for powering a roller on a roller stand next to the looper. A section of the control unit integrates the corresponding deviat-ion between the determined actual value and ideal value in relation to the tension and looper angle. A proportioning operation is applied to the corresponding deviations between the tension, the looper operating angle and the rotational speed of the looper motor at the time when the control process starts as well as at the time of current control in order to combine the obtd valuves and to supply the looper current control unit or the looper control unit. A control section effects an integration and a proportioning similar to the aforementioned section, for the purpose of combin-ing the obtained values and outputting the same to the main motor-speed control unit. An optmum gain adjusting unit corrects the proportional gain value in relation to the speed of the main motor. Of two design variations for the control system, one uses a looper current control unit (1), the other a looper speed control unit. -
