In order to adapt the frequency band of resonant circuits presetting frequencies higher than the set frequency, composed of a metal-plastic-metal composite sheet useful as an identification label, made from rolls (1) of sheets composite and connected to each other by at least one plastic film, the resonant circuits are transported almost continuously between two cells (5, 6) for measuring the frequency between which a reduction unit (7) is located. After comparison between the set value and the actual value, the frequency band of a resonant circuit is adapted by reducing the capacitor part of the resonant circuit by means of a reducing unit (7) controlled by the correcting unit (8 ). The position of the reduction unit (7) determined by the correction unit is used as the base value when adjusting the reduction unit (7) for a subsequent resonant circuit, so that only minor corrections are necessary to permanently adjust the reducing unit (7) when reducing the subsequent resonant circuit. The method can be used when, by an appropriate choice of the components and of the dimensions of the composite sheet, the latter does not cause significant deviations in frequency between resonant circuits not too far apart from one another.
