A sealing arrangement for a movable spindle shaft 3 which is displaceable between end positions consists of a packing box 2 which at the ends has guides 7; 2d for the spindle shaft 3. The packing box has a centrally positioned sealing element 4, for example an O-ring, a lip seal or the like, the distance of which from the respective guide at least corresponds to and preferably exceeds the stroke length s of the spindle shaft. Incisions and scores formed on the spindle shaft at the points where it is subjected to guidance will then not reach as far as the sealing member 4 which consequently always interacts with a smooth, unaffected surface of the shaft. At least that part of the spindle shaft interacting with the sealing member suitably consists of stainless steel. The connection between the spindle shaft 3 and the actuating part is to allow certain mobility in the radial direction, and the actuating part should have separate bearings in relation to the spindle shaft.
