PURPOSE:To obtain the title stainless steel by adding specific amt. of La to an SUS 304 stainless steel having specific compsn. constituted of C, Si, Mn, P, S, Ni, Cr and Fe. CONSTITUTION:La, 0.02 to 0.10%, by weight, is added to an SUS 304 stainless steel constituted of 0.03 to 0.08% C, =1.00% Si, =2.00% Mn, =0.045% P, =0.030% S, 8.00 to 10.50% Ni, 18.00 to 20.00% Cr and the balance Fe. By the addition of trace amounts of La which has the bonding strength with C stronger than Cr, the deposition of Cr carbide is suppressed at the time of welding to prevent the generation of a Cr-lacking layer. In this way, the intergranular corrosion resistance of the heat-affected zone in the above stainless steel can be improved.
