NEW MATERIAL:A cyclic imide derivative expressed by formula I (A is methylene chain or ethylene chain; n is 3 or 4; R is phenyl, 2-pyridyl or 2-pyrimidinyl which may have halogen, alkyl, alkoxyl or trifluoromethyl as a substituent group; the dotted line is single or double bond) and an acid addition salt thereof. EXAMPLE:N-{4-[4-( 2-Pyrimidinyl )-1-piperazinyl]butyl}-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2- exo-carboxy-2-endo-methylenecarboximide. USE:An anti-anxiety drug. PROCESS:An acid anhydride expressed by formula IIA is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III to give a compound expressed by formula I A, which is if desired subjected to the reduction of the double bond thereof to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I B.
