PURPOSE:To produce a calcined high-density and high-strength Al2O3-B4C-based compact by specifying temperature, atmosphere and pressure, pressurizing and calcining powder composed of Al2O3 and B4C in a specific proportion. CONSTITUTION:Powder (having about =10mu particle diameter) containing 10-50wt.% B4C and the remainder substantially composed of Al2O3 is pressurized and calcined at a temperature of =1,350 deg.C to =1,900 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmo sphere using =50kgf/cm2 pressure by a hot-pressing method, etc. Thereby, a calcined Al2O3-B4C-based compact, having toughness and excellent in thermal conductivity is obtained.
