PURPOSE:To set a pattern in accordance with the quality of slag and make slag scraping work efficient by a method wherein a slag discharging pattern, set by a scraping mode and the sequence of the mode, and the expanding and/or contracting pattern of a space between scraping plates at both ends are set in a scraping mode. CONSTITUTION:The characteristic of this slag discharging machine is in automatic operation, effected by an operator while selecting and extracting a preset slag discharging pattern in accordance with the amount of slag in a pot. Scraping modes 1-4 are set at first in the automatic operation slag discharging pattern. In the mode 1, the slag on the upper surface of molten metal is scraped by a full stroke, in the mode 2, the same is scraped by about 2/3 strokes, in the mode 3, the same is scraped by 1/2 strokes and in the mode 4, the same is scraped by 1/4 strokes. At the same time, the pattern is set while selecting and extracting properly from four kinds of scraping mode combined with the expanding and contracting patterns (a), (b), (c), (d) of a space between auxiliary scraping plates 8, 9 in accordance with the amount of slag. According to such methods, a slag discharging time can be shortened, the operating efficiency of the scraping work can be improved and the amount of dissipated heat of the molten metal can be reduced.
