Water or contact water treatment plants for water contaminated with environmentally harmful organic substances such as chlorinated hydrocarbons or substances containing mineral oil. In these plants, which can also be termed adsorption and absorption filters, instead of activated charcoal, polyurethane foam (base, ether) is used as filter or adsorption and absorption medium. The polyurethane foam (base: ether) serving as filter aid is regenerated in a drycleaning machine and can thus be reused. The substances adhering or absorbed to the polyurethane foam, depending on their properties, either remain in the circulation or a drycleaning machine and again perform their function there or remain in the still base of a drycleaning machine and can be disposed of from there.
