Monoclonal antibodies against phospholipase A2 from the venom of snakes of the families Elapidae and Hydrophidae, methods for their preparation and their use in detecting venom poisoning. The antibodies against snake venom phospholipase A2 (PLA2) consist of polyspecific monoclonal antibodies, that is to say antibodies capable of recognising not only the PLA2 used for preparing them, but also at least one other toxic PLA2 from the venom of snakes of the families Elapidae and Hydrophidae, are of the IgG1K type and possess great affinity for notexin, expressed by their dissociation constant KD of between 1.4 x 10-9M and 15.8 x 10-9M. Antigenic fragments of a plurality of PLA2 from the venom of snakes of the families Elapidae and Hydrophidae, recognised by the abovementioned polyspecific monoclonal antibodies.
