PURPOSE:To enlarge the use range of a mark sheet by providing character type line designating marks just over line designating marks and designating the character types to individual characters on the mark sheet. CONSTITUTION:The character types are prescribed by character type entry areas 22 described just over or just under line designating marks 6 and plural characters are entered mixedly in character entry areas 9 in the same line. The character recognition of a mark sheet 1 is to identify the character type line designation marks 20 on the mark sheet, to count out the character type entry area 22, to decide the character type, to identify the characters in the individual character entry areas 9 for the decided character types and to obtain character codes. Thus, the character types can be designated by characters and the limitation in the use of the mark sheet is dissolved and the application range of the mark sheet can be enlarged.
