PURPOSE:To promote healing by promoting regeneration of liver, by administering human epidermal growth factor(hEGF) to a patient of hepatic disease subjected to partial ablation of the liver. CONSTITUTION:hEGF, a compound which is a polypeptide isolated from human urine, consisting of 53 amino acids and having about 6,000 molecular weight and has physiological action such as cell multiplying action on various epithelial cells and fibroblast, inhibitory action on secretion of acid in the stomach and cytoprotection action is administered to a patient after operation of partial liver ablation to promote reproduction of the liver. Administration is preferably carried out by parenteral administration such as hypodermic injection, intradermal injection, intravenous injection, intravenous drip infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal or mucosal administration. A dose is 0.01-1,000g/kg weight per time.
