A silver halide photographic emulsion and a process for preparing the same are disclosed, wherein the emulsion has a composition of the formula: ##EQU1## wherein x is a molar fraction satisfying the formula 0 x≦0.6, and y is a molar fraction satisfying the formula 0. ltoreq.y≦0.01, wherein the relative standard deviation of the silver chloride content of individual silver halide grains is not more than about 20%. The emulsion has improved preservability in a liquid state during the period from its initial preparation through the coating step.
