In a seeder for sowing under mulching with compacting cylinders 1, film carrier 3 and film applicator 2, with a film cutter 4 and seeding wheels 9, the method consists in ensuring close contact between the film and front wall of the unwinder 2, in preventing the film from rising back up on the upstream periphery of the unwinder, in associating the cutting member with means 29, 30, 32 for retaining and spreading out the earth, in adjusting the control of the cutting member 4 so as to allow it to be brought into contact with the ground, in coordinating, for certain displacements of the seeder, the low position of the cutting member 4 with the top position of the seeding elements 9, 36 during short displacements at the end of a row, so that the earth pushed by the cutting member and the spreading and retention means 29, 30, 32 associated with the said member, bring the earth over a length of the end constituting the beginning or the end of a row.
