The invention relates to a method for making uniform and preferably dividing a flowing carrier fluid, non-uniformly loaded with solids, and an apparatus for carrying out the method. The solids, for example coal dust, are separated from the carrier fluid, for example air, in an apparatus combined to form a module, the solids, which are present in strand and non-uniformly, are settled and collected and added back to the fluid uniformly. The mixture made uniform can be fed to downstream apparatuses, e.g. burners, which demand a uniform distribution of solids over the flow cross section, or the mixture can be divided by a divider into any desired number of mixture part-streams and then fed, for example, to a plurality of burners, each mixture part-stream containing roughly the same amount of solids and fluid. The separation of solids and fluids can advantageously be carried out by a tangential or axial cyclone and the settling and collecting of the solid strands with the aid of a short-term reservoir. The division of the mixture made uniform can be carried out by the aid of a geometric cross-section subdivision. The apparatus exhibits a low pressure drop and low abrasion and can be designed to be pressure- and explosion-resistant. IMAGE
