The method according to the invention provides that the selection of the group of call numbers respectively assigned to the direct-call keys and stored in memories is determined by the type of branch line by which a multiple operator's position is connected or being connected at the time. In this way, it is possible to use the direct-call keys provided for setting up external connections also for directly setting up internal connections, in particular between the multiple operator's positions.
