PURPOSE:To produce a preserving solution for suppressing reduction in sodium and increase in potassium in plasma and increase in liberated hemoglobin followed by hemolysis, by adding glycerin and mannitol to an anticoagulant solution containing citric acid, sodium citrate and glucose. CONSTITUTION:An anticoagulant solution containing citric acid, sodium citrate and glucose is incorporated with glycerin and mannitol. The amounts of glycerin and mannitol are amounts to give 0.5-1.5w/v% glycerin and 0.2-1.0w/v% mannitol when blood or blood preparation is added to the solution. Preferably the preserving solution is further mixed with a substance (e.g. sodium phosphate) to become a metabolic energy source for blood or blood cell of blood preparation and a substance (e.g. adenine or adenosine) to maintain function of erythrocyte progressing deterioration with preservation. The preserving solution is added to blood or blood preparation and preserved at 0-2 deg.C lower temperature than a conventional preservation temperature preferably using a container having gas permeability.
