The invention relates to a device making it possible to perform all displacement manoeuvres, including deceleration, in forward or reverse gear, without a variable pitch propeller and without reversing the direction of rotation of the propeller, with a vehicle with an air cushion. The device consists of four deflectors 3, 4, 5, 6 articulated to the rear periphery of the cowl of the propelling device 7 composing two assemblies 1, 2 which are actuated separately by two controls fixed in the steering station. By controlling the closure or opening, simultaneous or alternating, total or partial, of the air flow outlet orifice 8, by the sets of deflectors, the helmsman (pilot) may select the manoeuvres. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for steering vehicles with an air cushion (hovercraft-type vehicles) but it may find numerous applications in the field of ventilation using a fan with a cowl.
