The electric heater operates with either natural or forced convection, the transition from off to natural convection to forced convection being controlled by two thermal switches. The heater has air inlet (3) and exit (4) arranged vertically, with an electric heating element (5) placed approximately midway between them. A motor driven fan (6) is placed between the air inlet and the heater element and has an air inlet (9) in the side of the heater feeding the air duct around the fan. When the air temperature falls below a set level a thermal switch (TH5) switches on the heating element while the fan remains off, setting up heating by natural convection. If the temperature falls further a second thermal switch (TH6) switches on the fan (6) to increase the flow of warm air.
