A device which serves for moving a carriage in one direction with an essentially uniform velocity and for moving it back with non-uniform velocity for the intermittent advance of a film web fed with constant velocity relative to a fixed welding device. The device possesses a lever which can be pivoted back and forth by means of a drive and, via a first connecting link extending in said lever in the longitudinal direction thereof and a slide block or a roller, provides the carriage, which is movable in a plane parallel to the pivot plane of the lever, in guides, with the drive movement. The mounting of the slide block or the bearing of the roller is guided so as to be displaceable on a line which forms the base of an isosceles triangle, the arms of which are defined by the lever pivoted into its end positions. To provide this device with a compacter, and therefore space-saving, design, the drive of the lever (22) consists of a crank circulating in a plane parallel to the pivot plane of the lever (22) with driven crankshaft pin (31), the crank pin of which bears a slide block or a roller which runs in a second connecting link, of the lever (22), which is disposed on the side thereof opposite the first connecting link (21) (Fig. 5).
