The sheet is heat treated at a temp. above the recrystallisation temp., then rapidly cooled by quenching in a water bath kept at a constant temp. above 75 degrees C, in which a termally insulated hot water tank is used. The temp. is kept homogeneous by circulating the water in the bath by man means of jets in the bath of a liquid of the same or different compsn. The circulation is from the periphery of the tank to its centre or vice verse. Any steam given off by the bath is collected in a contact condenser the calorific absorption capacity of which is such that the condensed water falls back entirely into the bath at the highest possible temp. (90 degrees C).
