Solar collector comprises a sheet shaped, profiled absorption element with good heat conductivity; a heat insulating underlayer; and between the absorption element and the underlayer, channels through which a fluid can flow, part of the channel wall being made up of part of the absorption element, and the remainder of the channel wall consisting of a poorly heat conductive layer which is carried by the insulating underlayer and which is practically impermeable to and not attached by the fluid. The poorly-heat conductive layer may profiled so as to form channels with a practically circular cross section in conjunction with the profiled absorption element. The surface of the insulating underlayer is pref. profiled to match the profile of the poorly heat conductive layer.
