A receiver for collecting sperm from commercially reared fowl, esp. turkey cocks, uses an adaptor resembling that of a 'Dreschel' head with a body of semi-rigid material which can fit over the top of a receiver ampoule so that the dip pipe enters the mouth of the ampoule to draw and discharge the semen into the ampoule which has been evacuated by suction applied by a pump to a side arm fitted through the wall of the adaptor above the level reached by the body of the ampoule. The adaptor is simple and cheap enough for disposal after filling an ampoule which typically will hold about 5 ml. Opt. the ampoule contains, e.g. refined sugar soln.
