Encased open=ended mandrel for casting settable mixes - used for mfg. hollow cored cementitious articles, is wrapped in and endless casing moved along the longitudinal axis of the mandrel
A core for making a hollow article from a settable mix comprises an open ended mandrel wrapped in a casing in the form of an endless lopp rotatable along the longitudinal axis of the mandrel around and the in contact with the exterior and interior walls of the mandrel. The mandrel is located in a mould and the settable mix fed into the mould moves along the exterior casing of the mandrel thus moving the exterior casing in the same direction and the interior casing in the opposite direction. Used for moulding hollow cores articles esp. from cementitious material, but also ceramic, organic polymers, foams, paper, powdered and sintered metals and glass. The rotatable casing prevents accretions of settable material on the mandrel and any deposit can be easily removed during moulding by a water stream.
