A picture tube (41) has a cathode driven by an emitter-follower (35,37) which is driven by a video preamplifier (33) with the collector of the follower coupled to the input (43) of a beam current measuring circuit (9). A negative feedback connection to the pre-amplifier is coupled via a distortion-free buffer stage (58) driven by the emitter-follower (35,37). Pref. an antiblocking circuit (59) injects a current of around one hundred microamps while a current source drains the current off, in order to prevent blocking of the beam current measuring circuit due to tube leakage.
