The plate fold-bending press comprises a table carrying a press die with V-groove below a vertically movable ram with V-section tool having a radiused lower edge. During the downward tool stroke, a plate support follows each upwardly moving outer end of the plate. - This support is carried by one or more tooth segments which are guided and driven by pinions and have their curvature centre coincident with the centre of curvature at the upper end of the V-groove. - The drive pinions engage the inner and outer perimeters of the segment and are coupled by meshing pinions of which one is arranged on a shaft carrying a further pinion meshing with a rotatable tooth quadrant. - A cylinder actuator acts on this quadrant at a point of which the x and y coordinates (a is x coordinate) relative to the quadrant centre are at constant ratio with respect to the x and y coordinates (x=horizontal here=b; y=a) of the tool edge relative to the centre of the groove top radius, the linear (horizontal) movement of the point having the same constant ratio with respect to the vertical tool movement.
