PURPOSE:To color an Al material to multiple colors that appear opaque, by impressing a voltage on said material in electrolytic coloring liquid contg. nickel sulfate and an additive such as boric acid to form an oxidized film further freshly between the oxidized film formed in the 1st and the 2nd stages and the Al material then impressing a voltage thereon, in the 3rd stage. CONSTITUTION:An anodized film is formed on an Al or Al alloy material in an electrolyte consisting essentially of sulfuric acid, etc. in the 1st stage, and the material is dipped in an acidic bath or is anodized in the acidic bath in the 2nd stage to perform the oxidized film formed in the 1st stage. The voltage which is equal to the voltage impressed thereon in the 2nd stage or above and is positive in polarity is impressed on said material for =10sec to form a further fresh barrier layer thereon in the electrolytic coloring liquid contg. barrier type film forming agents which are metallic salt such as nickel sulfate, stannous sulfate or the like and boric acid, tartaric acid, or their salts, etc., in the 3rd stage. The voltage which is smaller in absolute value than said voltage and is negative in polarity is impressed thereto to color the material electrolytically.
