PURPOSE:To manufacture ion oxide hydrate contg. Si and P for a superior magnetic material free from a sintering phenomenon by specifying the pH of a reaction soln. during oxidation of an aqueous soln. contg. Fe2+ of FeSO4 or the like as a principal component after adding alkali and by previously adding silicate and phosphate to an aqueous soln. of the alkali. CONSTITUTION:When an aqueous soln. contg. Fe2+ of FeSO4 or the like as a principal cmponent is oxidized after adding alkali, from the beginning to the end of the oxidation the pH of the reaction soln. is maintained at 5.5-7.5, and silicate and phosphate are previously added to all or part of an aqueous soln. of the alkali to be added. By this method Si and P are taken in crystals of iron oxide hydrate such as alpha-FeOOH to contribute to performance enhancement of a magnetic recording medium. This ion oxide hydrate can be manufactured more simply compared to a conventional method, and the cost can be reduced considerably.
