New process for obtaining the relief cinematographique with a single objective, applicable to the cinematographe, the apparatus of the television, to those of the radiocinematography and has the general optical
The method achieves three-dimensional cinematography using a single lens which is given a rapid horizontal to-and-fro linear movement making it possible to photograph in turn all the planes situated in the depth of field of a scene in a film, with sharpness in all the planes and with the lens operating at full aperture. When such a film is being projected, it must run at the same speed as it did during recording so that all the successive planes recorded in a depth of field pass rapidly enough for the viewer to have an impression of continuity of the depth of the scene due to retinal persistence and the accommodation of eyesight to distance. Because only one lens is used instead of the two employed in existing stereoscopic systems, there is no longer any point in having spectacles or other complex devices placed in front of the eyes of viewers and there is no longer any deformation of the off-axis images when the film is projected. Colour film can be used with the invention. The rapid horizontal to-and-fro linear movement of the lens is produced by a system of connecting rods connected by one end to the lens and by the other end to an eccentric wheel with a slide channel on its diameter. This channel enables the connecting rod to be offset from the axis of the eccentric wheel so as to adjust the throw of the lens according to the depth of field. Application to TV cameras, to radiographic cameras and to optical systems in general. IMAGE
