The dry process cement-making plant uses a cyclonic heat exchanger, a gas-flux pre-oxidising furnace with a first fume-separating cyclone, a clinker furnace and a clinker-cooler. The first cyclone gas outlet joins the exchanger gas circuit downstream of the last exchanger cyclone and a neck causes a charge pressure drop between these two points. Partial fume abstraction takes place at the clinker furnace outlet and material is fed from the penultimate exchanger cyclone to the pre-oxidising furnace. The first cyclone material outlet joins the foot of a vertical pipe connecting the clinker furnace fume-hood to the last cyclone and the pipe from the tip of the last cyclone leads to the clinker furnace, the arrangement optimising fume abstraction from the clinker furnace in relation to alkali content.
