The boat (1) has its screw drive motor (4) arranged in the rudder (5). The power source (2) is mounted in the boat and connected to the motor via flexible lines (3). The power source and motor may be electric or hydraulic. Lateral propulsion forces are pref. compensated by adjusting the motor position relative to the rudder blade, the motor shaft being parallel to the water surface. An electric drive motor is pref. contained in a stream lined enclosure providing adequate heat dissipation, the shaft being provided with a scraper, mechanical seal and a bearing with oil seal.
