Structures, engineering structures, building elements rock-formations and soils used in building and structural engineering are consolidated and made water resistant by the following treatments: (a) applying to the object to be treated, to its surface or to its surroundings a mixt. of rubber latex and for 5-60 pts. by wt. latex solids 0.1-10.0 pts. by wt. hydrogel forming water soluble polymer, and gelling the mixt. by the addition of an acid component opt. contg. a crosslinking agent for the polymer. (b) applying to the object to be treated, to its surface or to its surroundings a mixt. of rubber latex and for 5-60 pts. by wt. latex solids 0.1-10.0 pts. by wt. hydrogel forming water soluble poly-electrolyte type polymer, and opt. adding to the object to be treated, to its surface or to its surroundings rubber latex contg. 40-60 wt.% solids.
