A thrust bearing device for high axial loads comprises two thrust bearings 25, 26 connected in series as far as forces are concerned, where the outermost bearing races 27, 28 are movable relative to each other while the two intermediate bearing races 29, 30 are fixedly connected and by means of two springs 32, 33 encompassing the bearing races of each of their bearings 25, 26 and performing a sideways clamping action on same, are prevented from rotating in one and the other direction of rotation, respectively, relative to each of their outermost bearing races 27, 28. An intermediate ring 31 fixedly connected with the intermediate bearing races 29, 30 comprises a cylindrical wall with a central portion 35 opposite the bearing races 29, 30 and outermost portions 36 having a reduced wall thickness on each side of the central portion 35 opposite the ball cages 37 of the two bearings 25, 26. Keeper parts 39, 40 encompassing the outermost bearing races 27, 28 have wall portions 41, 42 encompassing the sides of said bearing races 27, 28. In order to diminish the hysteresis of the bearing device and eliminate risk of blocking of the bearings owing to jamming of windings of the helical springs, the springs 32, 33 for each bearing 25, 26 encompass an outer portion of the intermediate ring 34 and the wall portion 41, 42 of the keeper part 39, 40 around the outer bearing race of the respective bearing, and are encompassed by outer rings 43, 44 on their outside.
