PURPOSE:To improve the detecting accuracy and reliability of the titled monitoring by embedding conductors in castable refractory materials at the bottom of a spout material of a pig iron tapping spout of blast furnace and detecting variations in electric current flowing between the conductors and the earth while impressing an AC voltage between the conductors and the earth. CONSTITUTION:The conductors 51-53 are embedded in the castable refractory material 3 at the bottom of the pig iron tapping spout materials 2 of blast furnace. Voltages of AC sources 101-103 are impressed between the conductors 51-53 and the earths 13, and a frequency 80Hz of each independent system is used for prevent noises from a commercial electric source. Thereby, the current before erosion detection is 0A, the current variation during such detection becomes large and is 2.0A, and the erosion can be detected clearly.
