The output of a video camera (1) surveilling a landscape is passed by a switching circuit (3) to memories (10) for the right (D) and left (G) channels of a stereoscopic system. The camera and memories and switching circuits are controlled from a sync. unit (4) with a clock frequency which is high relative to the duration of an image. The memories are read independently of the receiving circuits and the recording in memory of the image data. The read process to the left and right visual monitors (2G,2D) can be asynchronous and at a high rate to avoid flicker effects. Subsequent images are shifted in time to permit detection of moving objects through magnifying lenses (0G,0D).
