In a high-capacity bucket elevator, the bulk material is fed by means of a number of sliding surfaces (11, 12, 13), positioned one above the other, to the buckets (3) which run past the sliding surfaces, so that, as a result of the relatively long sweep-over time per bucket of the bucket elevator, the degree of filling for each individual bucket is correspondingly high. The upper sliding surfaces (12 and 13) are provided with screening plates, which makes it possible for the bulk material to be classified such that the buckets are charged firstly with finer-grain bulk material and finally with coarse bulk material.
