Antibiotic SF-2080 A(1) and antibiotic SF-2080 B(II) were produced by fermn. with Streptomyces SF-2080. Thus a preculture of Streptomyces SF-2080 was inoculated into 35 L of a medium contg. maltose syrup 20%, soybean oil 0.15%, soybean meal 1%, distillers solns. 0.25%, Farmamedia 0.5%, FeSO4 0.0005%, NiCl2 0.00005%, CoCl2 0.00005%, and CaCO3 0.5%, and incubated at 28oC for 120 hrs. with stirring and aeration. I and II were recovered from the broth by solvent extn and gel chromatog. and recrystn/ from MeOH; the yidlds of I and II were 90 and 80 mg, resp. I is effective against a broad specdrum of bacteria; II has greater effect against a narrow spectrum of gram-pos. and gram-neg. bacteria.
