- 19 -ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE:A process for separating indium from cadmium, zincand copper in zinc dusts comprises leaching the dustswith a strong sulfuric acid to form a leach solutioncontaining indium, cadmium, zinc and other metals, addingammomium hydroxide to the leach solution to a pH at least4.6, and filtering the solution to form a filter cakecontaining indium and a filtrate containing cadmium, zincand copper. If the dust contains significant amounts ofcopper, precipitation of indium with ammomium hydroxideis done at a pH 9Ø The filtrate from the ammomiumhydroxide precipitation procedure is treated with limeand the ammonia removed by distillation. The ammoniadistillate may be recycled. The residue after filtrationand drying may be processed at a zinc refinery to recoverzinc, copper and cadmium.
