Cardboard is directly provided with a polyolefine coating consisting of a composite polyolefin film made up of at least two layers, which is applied on at least one side of the cardboard. The composite polyolefin film is made up of a fusibly adherent film as an inner film, and of at least one surface film, the films being of particular specified compositions and properties. The coated cardboard is made by applying the composite polyolefin film onto one side of the cardboard, completely covering it, with at least one strip-shaped overlap of the cardboard on the other side, a and preferably the other side of the cardboard is covered with a second composite polyolefin film, with strip-shaped or frame-shaped overlapping of the first polyolefin composite film. The product is suitable for files, ring binders and office and stationery requisites.
