The egg carton has a base designed to hold ten eggs in two rows and a cover supported by projecting parts of the base. The base has three lines of conical projections with flat tops, forming the pockets for the two rows of eggs. The top has each end flanged downwards, and has a number of rectangular tongues punched down the centre, projecting downwards. Both the flanges and the tongues rest on the flat tops of the projections to protect the eggs inside. In one design, there are four parallel tongues, and in another design two tongues are at right angles to the other two.
