An appliance for sucking off and pumping off liquid manure and ground and percolating water out of an upwardly open concrete pit embedded in the ground is proposed. The sucking off and pumping off take place by means of a suction pump which is effective in a container which receives an inflow and return-flow line leading to the stable. It is thereby to be possible, at any time, to suck off, by means of the suction pump provided for manure distribution, water which has accumulated in the upwardly open concrete pit above a stable-manure distribution apparatus embedded in the latter. It is to be possible, at the same time, to pump off ground water rising during the erection of the concrete pit and during the sinking of the stable-manure distribution apparatus. For this purpose, according to the invention, there is arranged in the surface covering the container (10) at the top a drainage valve (14) which opens into the container interior and which is normally held in the closed position by a compression spring (19) and, in the open position, opens an orifice (16) provided in the container wall. The drainage valve is preferably designed as a ball valve, the spherical valve body (15) closing the orifice (16) from inside the container (10). It has been shown that a pumping off of water is possible when, with the return-flow line shut off, the inflow line has previously been pumped empty. The water which flows or has penetrated into the container after the opening of the drainage valve is then conveyed upwards, when the suction pump is started up, via the delivery line of the latter.
