In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) a pump 1 driven by engine 2 has two outlet ports 3, 4. Port 3 supplies the power steering cylinder 10 via line 6 and three-way steering valve 7 and port 4 supplies the motor 19 which drives the air conditioning compressor. Pressure relief valves 13, 20, valve 7 and motor 19 are all connected to a common return line 14. The pump 1 is of the variable type and the output at port 4 is controlled by control element 5 which is actuated by flow regulating valve 24 so that the motor 19 operates at constant rotational speed. Motor 19 can be stopped by opening a by-pass valve 23. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2), a single variable pump 28 supplies pressure fluid to a three-way steering valve 30. In the neutral steering position II as shown valve 30 supplies fluid to motor 19. In the operative steering positions I and III valve 30 supplies fluid to cylinder 10, and a flow regulating valve 38 and by-pass line 39 supplies the motor 19. Again a flow regulating valve 34 actuates pump control elements 37 so that motor 19 operates at a constant rotational speed. In a third embodiment (not shown), the output of the pump 28 is controlled by a control valve connected to the three-way valve. The control valve has a slide which is biased on one side by the delivery pressure of the pump and on the other side by a spring and a pressure which is lower than the delivery pressure by the amount of pressure drop across at least one throttle disposed in the three-way valve. In other embodiments (not shown), two variable pumps are provided. The steering cylinder 10 and motor 19 may be supplied by separate pumps or may be supplied together by the combined output of the two pumps. Again flow regulating arrangements are provided to vary the outputs of one and/or both pumps so that motor 19 operates at constant rotational speed and so that cylinder 10 has an adequate supply of pressure fluid when required.
