In a method and a device for emptying rock masses from a silo having a bottom discharge funnel (8), superheated steam, which can be manipulated (controlled) with a fan (not shown), is directed into the rock masses in accordance with the method by means of a pressure chamber (5) (arch chamber) for the uniform flow of the rock masses. The device for this has a roof-shaped band (10) in the base part of the arch chamber (5), which band (10) keeps the rock masses apart while forming an intermediate space (2) in which the fan acts. In addition, a perpendicular friction plate (9) for guiding the rock masses is fastened below the intermediate space (2). IMAGE
