1. Operating mechanism for a switch, comprising a stand or a housing in which, to operate a movable contact, a contact carrier (18) is displaceably arranged between two end positions under the effect of the force of at least one main spring (1) provided with a straining device (4, 5), the main spring (1) being loaded during the first part of the operation movement and then almost instantaneously moving the contact from the on-position to the off-position or vice versa, characterized in that said main spring (1; 21) consists of a plane spring cut out from a sheet, that said straining device consists or two rotatably journalled straining arms (4, 5; 22, 23), each of which being hinged to one of the two ends of the main spring (1, 21), and that the main spring is arranged in such a way in relation to the straining arms that the straining forces and the bending of the main spring caused thereby, lie in the plane of the sheet during the operation movement.
