The printed products (6) are delivered by an individual conveyor (1) having a plurality of releasable grippers (2) arranged at a distance and one behind the other in the conveying direction (A). In order to release in each case a given number of, for example six, successive grippers (2), a release device (9) with a release rail (10) is provided which can be moved from a neutral position into a release position in which it effects an opening of the grippers (2) which are located in their active region. The printed products (6) thereby released fall onto a conveyor belt (14) which is arranged below and has the same conveying direction (B) as the individual conveyor (1), however a lower conveying rate than the latter. The periodic operation of the release device (9) now takes place in such a manner that the first printed product (6b) of each released section comes to lie on the last printed product (6a) of the previously released section in such a manner that the distance between these two printed products (6a, 6b) is the same as the distance between adjacent printed products (6) within the section. In this manner, an overlapping stream (S') is formed on the conveyor belt (14) in which the overlap distance is the same as the overlap distance within the overlapping stream (S) conveyed by the individual conveyor (1) and the conveying rate of the overlapping stream (S) is less than that of the overlapping stream (S').
